It's hella interesting to follow a massive fandom exodus. Back in the times where LJ was popular, I was already in fandom, but I disliked its format, so I usually just... googled "(fandom I was into at the moment) forums" and it never failed me. So even though I've been on the internet since '07, it's the first exodus I see firsthand.

Ah, back when fandom forums where the thing. I definitely remember joining some, despite being younger than I should have at the time. In a way, DW is sort of reminding me of those days, because there was always a delay in the conversations I had, but unlike on Tumblr, it never really hindered my experience.

I definitely think what's going on is interesting, but I definitely don't think it's going to be on the scale that some people are thinking. It's gonna be something, but based on the smaller site exodus' I've seen (which definitely don't live up to the FF.net or LJ situations), I think more people than not are probably going to cling onto Tumblr. But since I never had much faith in Tumblr to begin with, I'm hoping DW is worth it.

Huh, most forums I've been to didn't have much of an age restriction, or at least I don't remember it. Hah, part of the reason why I like tumblr is following tons of people so my dash is never dead, opposed to what I usually ended up doing in forums: refreshing the page constantly to see if someone responded :P

Eh, give it time. At least for what I heard from old LJ users, it took 2/3 years for people to actually stop using it.

Oh, they didn't really have age restrictions, it's just that it probably wasn't the best idea for an 11-year-old to be roleplaying online, haha. And I think that's fair. I'm okay with not having constant updates mainly because it would give me time to explore other things, but once you to the point where you have to wait a few days for a proper response, well, it's easy to see why forums aren't so popular now.

Another fair point. I was also reading up on how a lot of people would gradually start leaving. I mean, I'm going to keep checking on Tumblr, but I haven't properly used the site in a while.

Oh yeah, that makes sense. Also, I get the constant updates thing, I didn't realize how much I missed being able to reply to something several days later instead of having it to be right in the moment or it stops being revelant, sort of speak.
I still blog on tumblr, and I probably will until the site breaks down enough (or I lose interest. Less likely, but it can happen)
