This is another vent post but it's just to screech about K.A. Applegate's nonsense constants contradictions in worldbuilding.

Like, ok, I can accept Ax saying that the Hork Bajir have gone to war with each other in the past and then THBC saying that until the yeerks arrived, the HB were peaceful people (i have... Issues with the last part but that's besides). I can hc that Ax has absorbed Andalite propaganda, no probs.

But, for example, one thing I've always Loathed, since I was a kid? What happens with the hosts when they're not being controlled. Not the cages thing, that I get it. I mean how in 2, we see Chapman not being able to move without his yeerk, and it's, like, a terrifying impactful scene, right? We see what yeerks do to their hosts, and it's Terrible. ...Except it makes no fucking sense. Worse, it straight up contradicts the previous book. You know, the first book, the one that established stuff? And ok, listen. I'm not a big fan of it, and there's several things that were mentioned and never came back. But they don't stick with what happens in 2, either!
In 1, we actually see Voluntary Controllers (you know, what Chapman is?) just... leave their yeerks to their pool and then calmly go watch TV, or whatevs. No apparent movility issues! And then 2 happens. And then 8, and, ok, I accept that Alloran probably has to be put to sleep whenever Esplin goes for the swim, so in his very specific case, I get it. And then Visser shows Eva having almost no problems to stand and move! Which, I'll be honest, it's the one that makes the most sense to me, since every three days every host has several hours to have their body to themselves. (When I'm writing the experience of ex hosts, I like to write them kind of... shutting down after a few hours of moving. Like trying to move for extended periods of time is almost phsycally painful).

This went into a different direction that what I wanted to say, but whatevs. Point is, with Animorphs I just have to like... pick my favorite version of canon, and just stick to that. Which, as someone who's the kind of person who after getting a fic idea cautiosly combs canon to make sure it follows it, Ani approach to canon is both liberating as is incredible painful. (Will still be constinuosly enraged at Applegrant about it).
